“I was exploring a visual abstraction of the ancient Chinese symbol using a male and female figure.  The sculpture symbolizes the balance of life and became the origin of my “companion pieces” concept- Sculpture that stands alone as an individual, and becomes something larger when combined or interlocked with another sculpture.  There are two titles for each piece, one as an individual, and one for the grouping.  It is a metaphor for how we as individuals combine to become something else, and how those relationships grow and create new and different things.  Because of this revelation, this concept is now being expanded with many new works in the studio.  As individual pieces, Yin is Elemental-Water and Yang becomes Elemental-Earth.”
