“Contemporary Struggle”

“Contemporary Struggle”     36″h x 20″w x 17″d

“This sculpture was originally conceived as an exploration of an Atlas type figure and evolved to become a statement about ‘contemporary’ sculpture.  The evolution of sculpture into abstraction and non-representation are built on the foundations of the figurative tradition, but these new forms of sculpture have almost obliterated figurative sculpture.  The composition evolved further to represent mankind struggling with abstract concepts.  Upon closer inspection, the viewer will notice that the sculpture/abstract concept that is on the figure’s back is actually part of him.  It represents his idea growing from within him, much like the sculptor who produces works that all contain a little piece of himself.”
